HiQ® specialty gases and specialty equipment have a role in many areas of food processing. Instrument grade pure gases such as synthetic air, helium, hydrogen or nitrogen are used to zero and purge analytical equipment. Specialty equipment such as BASELINE cylinder regulators and REDLINE cylinder regulators and gas supply panels are used in many areas to control gas cylinder pressures while ensuring purity is not compromised.
"Food - grade gases" are defined as gases used as a processing aid and/or additive in order to ensure that standards are complied with. Our food-grade gases conform with “food-grade” regulations, e.g. the EC directive 96/77/EC on food additives within EU countries and the FDA guidelines in the US. Also the equipment such as cylinder regulators used with food packaging gases and with FDA's GRAS approved food additive gases should be generally recognized as safe and comply with the European Commission regulation No. 1935/2004.
Modified Atmosphere Packaging, or MAP, extends shelf-life, preserves the high quality of foodstuffs, and improves overall cost-effectiveness. The main gases used in Modified Atmosphere Packaging applications are carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2) and oxygen (O2). These gases are used either alone or as a gas mixture.
