Purge Assemblies
To maintain the quality of your gas during cylinder changeover, a system purge is an important procedure to implement. Purge assemblies allow the introduction of a purge gas into the system after changeover. Even with standard carrier gases, a system purge is recommended to remove potential air and moisture contamination that can occur. The most popular purge assemblies available are referred to as Inlet Tee Purge, Outlet Tee Purge, or Cross Purge.
Purge Assemblies - Inlet Tee Purge Assembly
Inlet Tee purge assemblies are connected between the cylinder supply and the supply regulator. The inlet purge supply is typically controlled by an isolation valve connected to a regulated purge gas source. This allows you to purge your system to remove potential atmospheric contamination after a cylinder change.
Purge Assemblies - Outlet Purge Assembly
Outlet Tee purge assemblies are installed in the regulator outlet port. Consisting of a supply system isolation valve and vent valve, an outlet purge assembly allows you to isolate the regulator from the supply system during change out. After connecting to a new gas source, you then purge out the regulator using this inlet source. With this type of system, it is recommended to pressurize the regulator and then vent using the outlet valve a minimum of three times to remove potential contamination.
Purge Assemblies - Cross Purge Assembly
A cross purge assembly has the isolation valve connected to a purge gas source, along with additional isolation valves at the supply inlet, as well as an outlet vent valve. The use of the three-valve system removes the requirement for a total system purge by allowing the user to isolate the regulator from the cylinder during change-out. The potential for contamination is limited to the purge assembly area itself. This keeps downtime to a minimum since this small area can be purged rather quickly. Cross Purge Assemblies should be used with toxic and corrosive gases.
