When we won the contract to supply calibration gases to Envirotest, the world's largest vehicle emissions testing corporation, we were delighted - maybe even a bit puzzled.
Yes, we had a reputation for quality and dependability as a leading gas supplier; Yes, we have extensive applications knowledge and yes, our specialty gases for especially demanding customers - our HiQ® range - is of exceptionally high quality. But we also knew we were no experts in vehicle emission testing. This fact was already part of the answer: Envirotest were looking for a company as qualified in supplying quality gases as they are in vehicle testing.
The problem:
Envirotest develops, administers and markets vehicle test programs, including the stringent IM240 emissions tests. Naturally, they have strict requirements on gases for calibrating testing equipment. But they needed more than just gases (from nitric oxide at 400 ppm to 'zero air'), they also needed a point of use quality guarantee and fool-proof logistics. All at a competitive price.
The solution:
We began by asking questions. We looked at Envirotest's requirements, and their usage patterns. We plotted the highs and lows of calibration gas demand. We looked at shelf life requirements, at how Envirotest's distribution network functioned and we scrutinized their quality criteria. Our proposal surprised even Envirotest and it worked. That was around three million vehicle tests ago, and we're pleased to say we've been surprising them ever since with a service and quality that both meets and exceeds their expectations.
